City Of Leeds New Years Eve Celebrations
31st December 2000
| Limahl was the headline artist on the music stage -one of several events being staged as part of the City of Leeds New Years Eve celebrations. His performance which started at 11.15pm in Victoria Gardens, immediately preceeded the countdown to the New Year and a £500,000 Firework Display. The whole event was broadcast live by the hosts 96.3 Aire FM & Magic 828. Despite the very wet & chilly weather, the show was a huge success as a letter from the organisers testifies. |
| Show rundown: |
| Limahl opened with a couple of his own songs -a quick burst of 'Love Will Tear The Soul' followed by 'Too Shy'. |
| He then went onto perform other hits from the 80's: I Won't Let the Sun go down on me (Nik Kershaw) |
| A stranger invited himself onto the stage and decided to join Limahl in singing 'Don't You want me' (Human League). |
| Security was then tightened as Limahl continued with 'Just Can't get enough' (Depeche Mode) and 'Tainted Love' (Soft Cell). He then got the crowd singing with a bit of 'Who Let the Dogs Out' and the football chant 'Here We Go'. During this a premature firework went off. The show finished with his own 'NeverEnding Story'. |
