Frequently Asked Questions
Please note that this is an unofficial website. Although Limahl has posted to the visitor book in the past, he does not support this site and I am not in contact with him.
In order to avoid the same question being asked many times over because the previous answer is 'lost' further back, I have extracted the some questions from the visitor book for easy reference. I will also include the questions that I think fans will find the most interesting and frequently asked questions that I recieve by email.
In some cases I will paraphrase a question to cover all similar questions.

QUESTION
I'd like to go to a Limahl gig. How do I find out whats on?
ANSWER
Any gig news I find out about I will mention in Limahl Forums. I would also hope that fans who know about a gig not mentioned would let the rest of us know either by posting to the forum or visitor book or by . Note that any gig news posted is completely unofficial and its upto you to double check the information with the venue.
QUESTION
I'm interested in attending a gig that is coming up shortly. Can you tell me how to get there and ... ?
ANSWER
If you have any questions relating to a venue (e.g. recommended hotels, travel etc) then please visit Limahl Forums. You may find the answer is already there and if not, it's the best place to post your query. On your first visit please read the 'Welcome' posting in the Forum Announcements. Note that you dont need to register in order to post but it may help to mention what country you come from. Also if you feel unable to ask the question adequately in English, then post in your own language. As fans visit from all over the world, the chances are that there is someone that can help out with any language difficulties.
QUESTION
Were the 'Dont Suppose' or 'Colour All My Days' LPs ever released on CD?
ANSWER
Neither have ever been released as CDs. There is however a CD that comes close -in The Best of Limahl (2nd CD down). It has all but two tracks from both of these albums. It's not easy to find though.
QUESTION
Where can I buy the 'Dont Suppose' or 'Colour All My Days' LPs ?
ANSWER
As is the case with all vinyl from the 80s, you can now only buy these second hand. There is a CD that comes close -see my previous answer.

Visitor Book Question 1: Best Of CD (includes rerecorded tracks)
QUESTION
Name : Klaus Ringe Nielsen
From: Denmark
Comments: Questions for Limahl on the "Best Of Limahl" CD - v2: Polite version ;) Hi Limahl. Having heard the new "Best Of" CD a few questions come to mind: While listening to the first 10 tracks, it's quite clear that the production quality of the new re-recordings is inferiour compared with the originals. Vocally nothing's wrong, but the music doesn't have the detailed and layered sound of the originals. You've said that the tracks were pre-recorded, and you only had to add the vocals. How come that you weren't more "protective" about the quality of the music? About the choice of tracks; was it your choice to record Kaja-tracks? While it's interesting to hear your version of the tracks (like looking back into a parallel world in which the Kajagoogoo split never happened), it really doesn't make any sense on a Limahl Best Of CD. Did the record company have the legal right to record the Kaja-tracks, ie. permission from the band? Also, have you had any reaction from Nick Beggs and the other band members on these versions? Of the remaining tracks, the two new tracks is what really makes the CD worth my hard earned money. When was these tracks written/recorded? How many other tracks like these have you got "in storage" :) Looking forward for your answers. :) Questions asked by: Marc, Deborah Flitter, Serena B.& Klaus Ringe Nielsen

ANSWER
Name: Limahl
From: London/ UK
Comments:1. How come that you weren't more "protective" about the quality of the music ?
Answer: Well, I was sent some previous work of the producers which seemed quite good and so I thought the production would be ok. Obviously I was very wrong.
2. About the choice of tracks; was it your choice to record Kaja-tracks ?
Answer: No, not at all......in fact if I had my way I would definitely not recorded them but the whole project was offered to me as a complete idea and I have to admit that financially it was hard to turn down, so I said OK because I thought, even though I don't wanna record these "Kaja" tracks, I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face (an old English saying). I didn't like the thought of "Kaja" affecting me negatively again, after all these years.
3. Did the record company have the legal right to record the Kaja-tracks, ie. permission from the band ? Also, have you had any reaction from Nick Beggs and the other band members on these versions ?
Answer: Once a track has been released commercially, anyone can do a cover version of it (usually) and so they did not need permission from the band. I have not had any response from the band about these versions but would not expect any, as we are not speaking. I don't care what they think anyway.
4.Of the remaining tracks, the two new tracks is what really makes the CD worth my hard earned money. When were these tracks written/recorded ? How many other tracks like these have you got "in storage" :)
Answer: Thankyou......a very interesting question. "Lost In Love" was written about seven years ago for no particular reason than I was being creative. I was writing a lot more at that time for myself (Limahl) and this was one of those rare occasions where I just played around in the studio and ended up doing practically everything myself. I even played the bassline (from a keyboard of course) and just was playing around with drum loops and grooves. I have to say that it's one of favourite songs that I've written recently. I am thinking of re-working it a little, at some point, if I ever get another recording deal again (which I'm sure I will).
"Rhythm of Love" was written for a small label in the UK about three years ago who said that there was a lot of interest in Europe for another Limahl track and they asked me to write/produce something. I presented this to them and they didn't like it and it was never released (sadly)......but that's just the way it goes.
I hope this answers all your questions. I am genuienly sorry to all of you if you really hate this album. I agree with Klaus that it's probably not my best work, but what can I do now. Its gone and I must move on. I'll make it up to you all in time I hope. Don't hold it against me forever !! Please. xx

QUESTION

Comments: who invented your famous hairstyle?
- Thursday, July 08, 1999 at 14:07:01 (BST)
ANSWER
Name: Limahl
From: UK
Comments: the famous hair style wasn't actually invented as such, it really just came about. One of my first shows in theatre which was called Godspell written by an American composer I think Steven Schwarz. There was an important show because six guys and six girls and all the guys had mousy brown hair which is actually the colour of my hair and I just thought that this was a great chance to kinda stand out a bit so I went to the director and said you know, I really like to try going blonde and he said fine and it was great fun. There I was at 19 with this blonde spiky hair but that was just it then -just blonde and spiky and then as I kinda progressed and got more into bands, I kinda tampered around with it and it just kinda evolved like that.

QUESTION

Comments: Does anyone know where I can get the 12" remix of The Neverending Story and is it actually any different from the 7" version?
- Monday, January 17, 2000 at 14:26:01 (GMT)
ANSWER
Name: Ilona
Comments: Yes the 12" mix is different from the 7". The 12" mix is the final track on 'Kajagoogoo and Limahl -Too Shy the singles and more'. Also you will find it on several various artist CDs -two that I know of are 'I Love Disco' and 'HiNRG'. You will need to hunt around the large CD retailers on the web for these. Sometimes when searching these sites its better to search on part of the song title rather than the artist. Alternatively you can hunt around 2nd hand record shops for the original on vinyl. Note that there is also an American 12" version called the Club mix but this to my knowledge is not available on CD.- Monday, January 17, 2000 at 20:23:01 (GMT)
Visitor Book Question 6: Vocals on Neverending Story / Mandy / Beth
QUESTION
Name: Kathie
From: US
Comments: Why did Beth Anderson do the backup vocals on the NES Story Video when Mandy was going to lip sync it? Mandy seems to have a good voice so I am wondering why she didn't do the actual singing or was this someone else's decision?
- Wednesday, April 07, 1999 at 23:25:14 (BST)
ANSWER
Name: Limahl
Comments: To answer your question: Mandy didn't sing on anything. She was just geographically in the right place at the right time. She was hired by the director for the UK video "Only for love" and when I needed a girl later on for TV shows, etc I gave her a call coz we got on quite well. Most TV shows are not geared up for live vocals and work only with full playback (mime) so it didn't really matter if Mandy could sing or not. As far as I know Beth was hired as a session singer by the producer Giorgio Moroder and I consequently didn't have much contact with her at all !! I presume EMI records didn't want to use her in Europe (where the song was no'1 in every country) because it was probably too expensive to fly her all the way from Los Angeles.-Thursday, April 08, 1999 at 03:05:48 (BST)
